Jake introduced us to the wonderful world of Aussie ownership in 1993, meaning we learned how to "owned" by an Aussie! He taught us a lot...like Aussies will fetch until YOU get tired, and that we really needed to have a longer hallway for him to chase the ball down!
When we moved to our 90 acre farm in Pulaski, Jake was in 7th heaven. We built a new barn and brought our Arabian stallion, Charr Cole, home to retire from the show ring. Jake took it upon himself to make sure that Charr got his daily exercise, and the two of them played "tag" everyday.
Although Jake enjoyed playing with Charr, keeping all the birds out of the yard (those darn swallows loved to tease him, too) and catching the frisbee, we knew he was too smart and too athletic to not do more. We started him with some agility lessons, and he caught on quickly. Since neither of us could run him, we turned to our dear friend, Karen Soule, to help us with his training and competition. They hit it off immediately. Soon it was clear that Jake had bonded with Karen and really didn't want to be home here with us anymore. So, we co-owned Jake with Karen. They made quite the team and garnered several titles.
Jake retired from competition after completing his OJP in March, 2006 at the spry old age of 12 1/2 yrs.!!
His retirement days were spent going to the barn with Karen, lounging
in front of the TV with Karen and Mary while they watched the Mets game, and
occasionally, grumbling at the "new kid on the block", Roper.
Well old friend, we see you are out running with Charr again....over the Rainbow Bridge.
